We get that! The Ideal Exhibition is a rich concept that is constantly being reinvented… a fabulous work in progress that even surprises its own creator every day! So, let’s summarize: to participate in this great adventure, the only thing you must do is mount a real exhibition (produce works, hang them, and then of course show them to us, see below) that is inspired by Hervé Tullet’s creative processes, detailed in the video workshops. From there, anything is possible! It’s flexible, fun and totally free-spirited. You can create an Ideal Exhibition in a shoe box or in a stadium. At home, in a school or a museum. And in the end, the Ideal Exhibition will also be the sum of all the Ideal Exhibitions mounted around the world. But until then, the Ideal Exhibition is yours and whatever you do with it! So get started!
For everyone (that’s why it’s ideal)! The Ideal Exhibition is for kids, teenagers, adults, old people, young people… Art teachers, as well as people who have never drawn before. Children with their parents, and children on their own (kids 6 and up can work independently with the videos to create an Ideal Exhibition in their own room!). Art facilitators and art therapy group leaders in all kinds of institutions, regardless of their audience (hospitals, retirement homes, prisons, etc.) Art centres, museums, cultural centres and neighbourhood centres. Art school students, as well as kindergartners. Teachers, as well as amateurs. Even companies that want to boost the creativity of their teams (or offer their customers a unique event). From there, it can happen indoors, outdoors, and in any possible combination. To use a school as an example: A class in its own classroom. Two classes jointly. The whole school together in the gymnasium or schoolyard. Several schools in the same region. Two schools together, thousands of kilometres apart…. This list is not exhaustive, but it is inspired by all the Ideal Exhibitions already launched around the world. It’s up to you to invent your… ideal format!
The complete web series is available on the digital platforms listed here. If you do not have access to these platforms or have a special need, send us an email at info@theidealexhibition.com and present your Ideal Exhibition project, specifying whether you are an individual, or a cultural or educational organization.
Of course! If you can lead an Ideal Exhibition workshop for your children and their friends at a birthday party (a great opportunity to practice, by the way), then you definitely can organize an Ideal Exhibition for a wider audience, at school with other parents, as part of an association in which you participate, at your workplace… wherever you want! No specific training is required, and the videos and instruction sheets are there to guide you step by step. But if your Ideal Exhibition project is gaining momentum, and you think you need the help of a professional art facilitator, write to us at idealexhibition@theidealexhibition.com. We can put you in touch with an Ideal Exhibition “ambassador” (a “guide” approved by Hervé Tullet!) who, depending on your needs and the means at your disposal, can exchange with you remotely, or travel to help you.
Almost! Tobo and Hervé Tullet, through the Ideal Exhibition website, as well as on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest, provide unrestricted access to a wide range of content for inspiration and practical advice (videos, images, instruction sheets, etc.) to enable as many people as possible to create Ideal Exhibitions for free. All you need to have after that is paper, brushes, colours, tape and scissors! However, if you are a cultural institution or educational organization, we will suggest, when you contact us, that you make a contribution that would be defined according to the scope of your Ideal Exhibition project and the resources of your establishment. What will this contribution be used for? The sole purpose of bringing the Ideal Exhibition to life and growing its reach by financing the translation of videos or the production of new content. It could also allow us to give a “helping hand” to exhibitions organized by associations with limited resources, or aimed at populations in difficulty. In short, it will help us ensure the sustainability of this project by sharing it with an ever-growing audience.
No, if you use our content for free. In exchange for our free content, we ask you to commit to offering free and open access to all activities and exhibitions that result from it (even if you use an art facilitator, see below). This is part of the Ideal Exhibition’s founding charter.
No, for the same reasons as above. However, if you are organizing an Ideal Exhibition for a charitable purpose or as part of a fundraiser, please contact us at info@theidealexhibition.com and tell us more about it. We may, on a case-by-case basis, define other modes of operation.
Hervé Tullet lives and works in New York. He is in very high demand all over the world, therefore travels a lot and unfortunately cannot meet all requests. On the other hand, he monitors all current Ideal Exhibition projects on a daily basis through social networks and messages on the website. So get started, organize your own, keep us informed of its progress by giving us as many details as possible at info@theidealexhibition.com… and you may be surprised to see the artist invite himself to your opening!
Of course! In fact, that’s completely in line with the spirit of the project, which is to enable you to create an exhibition inspired by Hervé Tullet… without Hervé Tullet! However, to be clear, if you use our content for free, you will need to find a way to compensate this facilitator without charging for access to your Ideal Exhibition or workshops (see above).
Currently, the videos are available in French, as well as with English subtitles. Portuguese subtitling is in progress. Some participants, enthusiastic about the Ideal Exhibition, offer to translate the subtitles on a voluntary basis (as is the case for the Portuguese version). If you speak/teach a language that would allow us to broaden the web series’ audience, your translation skills are welcome! Offering a wide choice of subtitles is particularly important to us because in addition to spreading the Ideal Exhibition around the world, it allows us to organize parent-child workshops on its two continents of origin (Europe and North America) with migrants and newcomers.
Certainly! On a personal level, Hervé Tullet has already led many workshops with all of these audiences, and the Ideal Exhibition is also meant for them. Whether you are an art therapy professional or not, whether you work in a prison, hospital, retirement home or specialized institution, you can organize your Ideal Exhibition for whomever you choose! Tell us about your idea at info@theidealexhibition.com, and if you wish, we can put you in contact with other members of the community who have already set up similar projects.
There are two options:
1. Share photos and/or videos of your exhibition on your Instagram account with the hashtag #idealexhibition. They will automatically be displayed on our website.
2. Or write to us at idealexhibition@theidealexhibition.com. We will send you a form to fill out, allowing you to share your photos or the Vimeo/YouTube link of your video by email. And of course, before you participate in this great collective work, you can consult the large virtual gallery of all the Ideal Exhibitions that have already taken place around the world! You’ll see… it’s very inspiring!
Social networks have been a great sounding board for this project right from the start of the Ideal Exhibition adventure. Across borders, a community has been created, experiences exchanged, and networks set up, thus ensuring that many more Ideal Exhibitions will be created in the years to come. But it’s also an invaluable way for us to document, over time, this incredible artistic and collaborative experience. Within two years, a catalogue of all the Ideal Exhibitions should be published, supervised by Hervé Tullet. Your exhibition may be included! So don’t forget to send us HD video and photo material at idealexhibition@theidealexhibition.com (we love to see your work, but also the happy faces of participants!). This content must of course be free of rights, and for any use on our site and in the upcoming book(s); we’ll send you the appropriate form to fill out.
If you are a professional and would like Hervé Tullet to organize an Ideal Exhibition in your exhibition space, please contact us at idealexhibition@theidealexhibition.com to discuss your project.
Then please contact us at info@theidealexhibition.com. Talk to you soon!
